I know. This has been long loooong overdue.
I’ve spent the last 7 years learning as much as I could from some of the best people in my industry. I was lucky enough to work on some amazing accounts back in Durban for TBWA. When Graham and I decided to move to Cape Town, the only place I wanted to work was The Jupiter Drawing Room because they had the Woolworths account. A month before we moved, Woolies decided to go in-house. I didn’t know where I wanted to go so I sent my CV to EVERY agency. And, because that’s how life works, I received a tweet (yip a tweet) asking if I would like to interview for a position at Woolies in-house agency. And that’s where I spent the last 4 years, working on packaging, editorial, events and advertising. It’s also where I really learned to engage with clients and suppliers and about business.
While this was happening, I developed a love for quilling (re-developed if you count my early years, like 6 or 7, when my mom gave me a quilling kit. I made dragonfly birthday cards and then couldn’t keep my strips neat and they got all mooshed together. So, I buried the hobby in the deepest darkest pits of my mind.) and all things tactile.
Despite the paper cuts and back pain from having to lean over the work, this is one of my favourite hobbies. And thanks to social media (notably Behance), I was able to turn this into a career.
So, after 7 years of growing, grovelling and broadening my knowledge in agencies, I have decided to dedicate more time to doing what I love…
I hope you enjoy the little sneak peak into my process.
